The Other Sides of The Coin
1. David Greenwald | Rawkblog.net all started with this post called "Pop Stars Tweeting About Indie Rock: A Brief History" .
2. Davids Tweets
Update July 23,2010
In retrospect this whole story is a bit childish. Maroon 5's pop isn't completely horrible, and I'm usually the first to point out that if you don't have something nice to say don't say it at all. For those unaware there's a flame war between Adam Levine and some rock blogger. I guess this is sort of funny, but its funny in the same way its funny that my Grandpa calls The Apple Store, The Fruit Store. Or funny in the same way we can how we can laugh at old retro 80s haircuts and make up. Now that I think about it, Animal Collective really aren't THAT huge and it's nice that Adam is pointing them out to his audience.
Update 2!
On the other hand, looking at David's Tweets and original tumblr post we can see that David post was simply a collection of celebs posting about indie music. He didn't call Adam any names or anything. Indeed the intention of the post is just a seemingly humorous look at the two different worlds celebrities and hipsters live in. But, then you have Adam being a douche because he calls David a cynical indie snob for no reason.

Yea, what a fucking asshole for talking about a band that you already know about. I can't believe the audacity of this guy.
But srsly, why did you put quotes around "new" and "discovered"? Who are you quoting?
And why is it bad that he's talking about Animal Collective? Shouldn't you, in your infinite wisdom and perfect judgment, be glad that all these people (DERF, more like sheeple amaritelol?) who follow this guy on Twitter are being introduced to good music? Or would that jeopardize your position of being the edgiest douche nozzle on the indienet?
And where does he get offended? His observation seems incredibly accurate. You are a "cynical indie snob"*.
Shit, man. I don't even like Maroon 5. Well, I'm assuming I don't, "This Love" is the only song I've heard by them, and I didn't care much for it. But what I REALLY don't like are pretentious douche bags who make finding new music a competition to belittle everyone around them. And what the hell were you doing reading Adam Whatshisface's Twitter account anyways? Don't you have some obscure pre-release vinyl EPs to pass judgment on? Isn't there some new proto-prog-nerdcore-neo-folk-funk-experimusic to break down and compare to Air, Jakob Dylan, Muse and Mississippi John Hurt all simultaneously? Shit man, come out from under your pillow fort and find a constructive hobby.
*Note: I would like to commend you for demonstrating that you can, at times, grasp the concept of quotation marks.
As for me hating that he put up the tweet I don't hate it, I just find it funny. Funny because its so random to just be like "Animal Collective is badass". When the band has nothing to do with his genre and popstars aren't known for tweeting randomly about indie bands who don't have a new album. Its not about a new music competition or whatever the hell you are talking.
I, too, side on this post being somewhat douchey. I mean, obviously this guy isn't going to be our hero or anything, but someone like this giving attention to Animal Collective (who, despite being huge among men like us, lack the same audience this guy could give them) is probably a good thing. I appreciate your attempt at coming up with a nifty or inciteful blog post in order to drive traffic, but we should always remember to abide that age old adage... if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. It's very hard to insult someone unless you can do it in a way that is 100% justifiable and totally hilarious. In this case, this guy's actually doing something that can be interpreted as nice without the pretension blinders on.
Two cents!
I agree Parker. It can come off as mean and "douchey". I thought it was funny at the time but its a bit childish.
